What is Woof?
Woof-A-Palooza is a one mile dog walk to benefit Chatham Animal Rescue and Education, Inc. (CARE). There will be prizes, refreshments, vendors, contests, and other activities for you and your pet.

Why Woof?
All the animals in the CARE system are fostered in volunteer homes. CARE provides routine medical care such as vaccinations, deworming, and spay/neuter, as well as extraordinary medical care such as heartworm treatment and special needs operations.

While adoption fees cover much of the very basic medical care, they do not cover additional treatments that some animals require. We count on events like this to help fund the extra needed treatment for animals with special needs.

4th Annual Woof-A-Palooza a Howling Success

Chatham Animal Rescue and Education, Inc. (C.A.R.E.) held its 4th Annual Woof-A-Palooza dog walk fundraiser on Saturday, September 17, 2005 in Pittsboro at Central Carolina Community College. This one-mile dog walk fundraiser raises money to support the expenses of roughly 70 cats and dogs in volunteer foster homes. The animals of C.A.R.E. are rescued from the Chatham County Animal Shelter or the local community and live in volunteer foster homes until they are adopted by a permanent, loving home. Over 100 animal lovers participated on Saturday morning. There was a choice of 3 prizes for the top 3 walkers that brought in the most pledges and donations. They won their choice of:
  • A Kodak digital camera donated by Wal-Mart
  • Roundtrip airline tickets donated by Kevin and Stephanie Tabor
  • A long weekend getaway to Ocean Isle Beach donated by Ferguson Properties, LLC
The top fundraiser was Dorasue Burns who raised over $450.00. Additional top fundraisers were Myra Collins (3rd) and Karen McMaster (2nd).

Becky Norman, President of C.A.R.E.'s board of directors remarked, "A big thank you goes out to the animal lovers and sponsors that supported the walk. The dedicated fundraising committee (and those that love them) did a fantastic job! The successful, well-planned event was fun for the entire family!" Additionally, she commented, "C.A.R.E.'s fundraising chair, Karen McMaster, did a fabulous job organizing and leading this event. Thank you to the entire fundraising committee: Karen McMaster, Jennie Boone, Dorasue Burns, Thom Coughlin, Amy Mills, Amanda LaFrance and Michael McCormick for making this the most successful Woof-A-Palooza!"

All animals in C.A.R.E. live in volunteer foster homes. C.A.R.E. is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization. Dedicated volunteers on the Fundraising Committee of C.A.R.E. made this event a success by putting in countless hours of their time. Furthermore, C.A.R.E.'s corporate sponsors were responsible for part of the financial success of this critical fundraiser for C.A.R.E.

C.A.R.E. has been making a difference in the lives of animals for 30 years. Chatham Animal Rescue and Education was originally founded in 1975 as Chatham Humane Society. Without the financial support of generous corporate sponsors, individual pledges and volunteers, they would not be able to save the lives of animals in Chatham County. Donations can be mailed to:

The next fundraiser for C.A.R.E. is the 3rd Annual Burrito Bash at the General Store Cafe on Monday, January 9th, 2006 at 6:00 PM.
