3rd Annual Woof-A-Palooza a Success for the Animals of C.A.R.E.

Chatham Animal Rescue and Education, Inc. (C.A.R.E.) held its 3rd Annual Woof-A-Palooza dog walk fundraiser on Saturday, September 18, 2004 in Pittsboro at Central Carolina Community College. This one-mile dog walk fundraiser raises money to support the expenses of over 100 cats and dogs in volunteer foster homes. The animals of C.A.R.E. are rescued from the Chatham County Animal Shelter or the local community and live in volunteer foster homes until they are adopted by a permanent, loving home. Over 50 animal lovers participated on Saturday morning ignoring the rain from Hurricane Ivan. There was a choice of 3 prizes for the top 3 walkers that brought in the most pledges and donations. They won their choice of:
  • A 20" Color TV donated by Wal-Mart
  • A framed 11 x 14 Pet Portrait donated by Moment's Portraiture
  • A long weekend getaway to Topsail Beach donated by James and Angela Nemeth
The top fundraiser was Dorasue Burns who raised over $1,200.

Becky Norman, President of C.A.R.E.'s board of directors remarked, "A big thank you goes out to the friends of C.A.R.E. that came out for the walk in the rain. Their financial support makes a huge difference in the lives of animals in Chatham County. Additionally, the dedicated fundraising committee did a fantastic job with the walk this year and they (and their friends, spouses and significant others) deserve a big pat on the back for a successful, well-planned event. Everything was perfect, except for the weather!" Additionally, she commented, "Karen McMaster, (C.A.R.E.'s fundraising chair), did a wonderful job leading and organizing this event. Her passion for C.A.R.E. was evident in every aspect of the planning. Thank you to Karen and to her entire committee for making this the most successful Woof-A-Palooza!"

All animals in C.A.R.E. live in volunteer foster homes. C.A.R.E. is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization. Dedicated volunteers on the Fundraising Committee of C.A.R.E. made this event a success by putting in countless hours of their time. Furthermore, C.A.R.E.'s corporate sponsors were responsible for part of the financial success of this critical fundraiser for C.A.R.E. They include:

Without the financial support of generous corporate sponsors, individual pledges and volunteers, they would not be able to save the lives of animals in Chatham County.
