Having lost both of my parents within 5 months, I had to be away from home quite a bit. In spite of having friends regularly checking in on our 2-year-old tabby Zar, he developed pretty severe separation anxiety. We debated getting another cat – a friend for him. Would he like them? Would this new addition just kick his existing anxiety into overdrive? Should we do it?
A decision was made. We’ll give it a shot and see how it goes. We found CARE, and set up a time to go visit some kitties. That’s when we met Maverick. He was the first kitty to approach us, and we felt like his energy would match Zar’s. I feel like he chose us, so the decision was an easy one.
His foster mom Patti brought him over to the apartment, and guided us through how to go about slowly introducing him to Zar. Long story short, Maverick has been with us for 3 weeks, and he and Zar are the best of friends. They eat and sleep together, and even groom each other. I think that Zar was a lot lonelier than we realized. We call Maverick “our mini-panther”. He is the sweetest snuggle-bug. We love Maverick, and are so happy to have him in our family. I can’t wait to see what kind of mischief these two get into over the next many years.
