7th Annual Burrito Bash a Huge Success—for the animals of CARE and for all the folks who turned out!

On Tuesday, May 4, 2010, Chatham Animal Rescue and Education (CARE), in partnership with the General Store Café, hosted our 7th annual Burrito Bash & Auctions fundraiser. Approximately 200 animal lovers turned out to enjoy the events of the evening. Music was provided by Mr. Ed’s Party Entertainment, who spun a range of discs from the 60’s to today—prompting several folks to hit the dance floor! (Additionally, he donated his DJ services as a silent auction item.)
We held our silent auction from 6 to 7:15, when folks could barely refrain from trying to outbid the highest bidder—with a selection of art in virtually every medium, gift certificates and gift baskets, and services ranging from pampering people to pampering pooches, everyone who participated went home a winner!
We held two raffles—one with items donated by local artisan Simply Cedar, and one a reverse raffle that folks were automatically entered into when they purchased a handcrafted, recycled glass with the CARE logo, created by Leslie Fesperman. Congratulations to our winners!
- 1st Prize handcrafted cedar mailbox, Martha Eller of Zebulon
- 2nd Prize handcrafted cedar birdhouse, Carolyn Wood of Pittsboro
- And our grand prize winner of the reverse raffle, Melissa Taylor, who took home the iPod 2G Shuffle
Before the live auction, Pittsboro Mayor, Randy Voller, raved about the role CARE plays by helping cats and dogs in the community . We were lucky to book the services of Michael Rogers of United Country, Rogers Auctioneers, Inc., our star auctioneer who made the evening lots of fun—as well as lucrative! While the final tally is still out, we can safely say that we more than exceeded our lofty goal by at least 50%.
